- [Jamerrill] So, whatI'm doing today, guys,
as part of the frugalfamily food collaboration
is we're gonna do some baked oatmeal.
(jazzy piano music)
You're not gonna see me though,
you're gonna see a lot of talking hand,
you're gonna see my bathrobe arms
because that is the stateof the universe right now.
So, what we have here to doour 9x13 pan of baked oatmeal
is I have some old fashioned oats,
I have one cup of melted butter,
we're gonna use one cup of sugar,
you can also, if you don'twanna use actual white sugar,
you could use stevia, althoughI haven't tried it that way,
I have switched out steviafor sugar in various recipes.
You might hear the baby making a noise,
my 17-year-old is holding the baby for me
(laughs) while I'm trying to film this.
Oh, so this is only half a cup,
I'm gonna use this twice 'causeI can't find my other cup.
(baby whining)
Okay and he's now walking the baby for me
so we can try to make this happen.
I've got five eggs, I havesome allspice, baking powder,
some vanilla, this is a big thing
of imitation vanillafrom ALDI, almond milk,
this recipe is gonnabe a hodge-podge recipe
because how I would like to make this,
I don't have everything for.
So usually I would justuse regular old milk
and I would use cinnamon, but since I don't have those,
I'm getting creativewith what I have on-hand
and I'm gonna use almondmilk and allspice.
And then, let me think, there was one more thing.
Oh, the other thing is, we need to have,
we need a little salt, so I'vegotta walk over and get that.
Now we're using oldfashioned oats this morning
because this is what we have,
and I use these a lot, butyou can also use instant oats.
We just like old fashionedoats around here.
So this is four cups, we'regonna use a total of six,
and Miss Amelia, in her pajamas too,
is gonna pour in the four, good.
And now we're gonna add in two more.
Woot woot!
Okay, Amelia, here you go, pour those in.
'Kay Miss Amelia, 'causewe're doing all our
dry ingredients in this bowl first,
there's half a cup of sugar, and I'm gonna get half more.
There you go, honey, there'sthe other half a cup.
Next we're gonna do fourteaspoons of baking powder
and then two teaspoons of salt.
Okay, here's another one.
Two.
(Amelia mumbles)
Three.
Dump it in.
Dump dump.
- That's four.
- No, that was three.
- Oh.
- Four. Yay!
Okay.
Okay, one.
I'm not getting our hair, no.
They can just see our messyjammies and hands, right?
Two, good.
Okay, now, got that, now we're gonna put in
our allspice.
Gonna just do this this way.
- Can I do it?
- [Jamerrill] Sure.
So now we're putting intwo teaspoons of allspice.
Okay Amelia.
One.
- And I'm doing the next one?
- [Jamerrill] Uh-huh, you are.
- So, two.
- [Jamerrill] And then, two.
Ta-da, and then tap your little spoon
on the side there, sweetie.
Then take this spoon.
- Mix.
- [Jamerrill] And we're gonna mix, okay?
So Amelia is working on mixingour dry ingredients together,
good job, keep on mixing those.
- [Amelia] And then we'regonna do the wet ingredients.
- [Jamerril] Then, we aregonna do the wet ingredients,
that's right, so.
Keep on mixing, here, hold your bowl
while you're mixing, sweetie.
Standing on a ladder andholding a bowl and mixing.
- [Amelia] Yep.
- [Jamerrill] You can do lots of things.
- [Amelia] Yep, I'm a strong girl.
- [Jamerrill] You are astrong girl, good job.
- [Amelia] But I can'tcarry, like, giant boxes.
- [Jamerrill] No, welet, we'll let the boys
carry giant boxes unless we have to, huh?
- [Amelia] Yeah.
- [Jamerrill] That's right,that saves mommy's neck.
This is, here you go Miss Amelia,
That's one cup of melted, that's margarine, actually.
Woop boop boop!
- [Amelia] Yeah, that's margarine.
- [Jamerrill] One.
And then we'll do our vanilla.
Okay, Miss Amelia, here you go,
there's one teaspoon of vanilla.
- [Amelia] Yeah.
- [Jamerrill] Got it, good.
Woop.
Two, plop.
Good job.
And then we're gonna.
- [Amelia] Do milk.
- [Jamerrill] Yep.
Okay, there you go.
- [Amelia] Mom, I'm just saying,
I like regular milk and almond milk.
- [Jamerrill] Yes, me too, okay.
So, now, mommy's gonna do the eggs, okay?
So, we just put in a cup of almond milk,
and now I'm gonna put in five eggs.
- [Amelia] I want to put in one egg.
- [Jamerrill] The eggs are pretty messy
on the hands, honey, so that's why mommy
is doing these right now.
But you can, guess what you get to do!
- [Amelia] What?
- [Jamerrill] You can whisk 'em.
You wanna go get the whisk?
- [Amelia] Whisk-y!
- [Jamerrill] Whisk!
Okay, and then.
(Amelia mumbles)
Hold your bowl.
Okay, there you go.
Here, we might need toscooch your ladder over
a little closer, I'll holdthis for you for a minute.
- I'm a little closer.
- [Jamerrill] Okay, there you go.
Oh, I forget you're a lefty, that's fine.
Hold your whisk and hold your bowl.
Let's see if I can, hold on here.
I'm gonna help you alittle, are you ready?
Woo!
- [Amelia] Now stop it.
- (laughs) You want me to stop it?
Okay, now you try.
(whisk thumping)
Yeah, that's good, good job.
Whisk, whisk, whisk.
Okay, let mommy have a turn for a minute?
(mixture bubbling)
Wee!
Hold on, almost, almost, almost, almost.
I'm doing my momma stir, right?
(whisking drains out Amelia talking)
And then you're gonna do your Amelia stir,
there you go, good job.
(whisk thumping)
- [Amelia] I'm makingit look like two eyes.
Mom, I wanna, two bowls,
Mom I want ours two (mumbles)like that (mumbles).
- [Jamerrill] It looks like two eyes?
Amelia's saying that our twobowls look like two eyes.
- [Amelia] And, and someone's mixing.
- [Jamerrill] And you're mixing, okay.
I'm working on mixing ourdry ingredients some more,
she's working on the wet.
- [Amelia] Is that allthe wet ingredients?
- [Jamerrill] Mm-hm, yeah,we're only doing one pan,
isn't that silly?
- [Amelia] Yeah.
- [Jamerrill] Just for maybebreakfast today and tomorrow.
Now, my most recent freezer cooking which
isn't out, as of thepublishing of this video,
I did four pans of bakedoatmeal for the freezer.
You can use, you can alsoput this baked oatmeal
in the freezer, the recipe will be over
on LargeFamilyTable.com.
The link for that is gonnabe in the description below.
We are all mixed now,I'm gonna spray our pan.
Here, Amelia, you wannahold the camera for mommy?
Big hands, don't touch underneath.
And you make sure you see mommy's,
oh, yeah, but you'vegotta hold it this way,
you're gonna video mommy.
Let me see if I can helpyou here, like that.
Can you see the pan?
- [Amelia] Yeah.
- [Jamerrill] Yeah, that's what you wanna get.
Okay, get the pan.
Nice.
There we go.
Okay.
So, good job, Amelia.
So now we have it in our pan.
And now we're gonna put this in the oven
for about 45 minutes.
- [Amelia] Why does it haveto be in the oven for...
- [Jamerrill] It bakes.
It bakes kind of like a cookie square.
- [Amelia] Oh.
- [Jamerrill] And then you have it
in a bowl with some milk on top.
And here it goes in the oven.
And we'll get our time set.
(Amelia mumbling)
We're out, sweetie.
That's why we're using almond milk.
So here is a picture of what
the nice big pan ofbaked oatmeal looks like
when it came out of theoven after 45 minutes
and now I'm gonna putsome in a bowl for you.
And here is what the squarelooks like in a bowl.
That's how much is left in our pan
and now I'm gonna poursome almond milk on top.
And obviously, again, you guys use
whatever milk you have on hand.
Whole milk is really good with this, too.
This is just what we have left
before we get back to the store.
